Registration to be a WHYFH Referee for the 2024 Fall season
All refs must:
1. Live in West Hartford.
2. Attend and play field hockey at one of the High School’s in town.
3. Have a cell phone and be able to log into signup.com

2024 Referee Registration
STEP 2. Online Certification Course- FREE
Everyone must complete the NFHS online ref. certification course using the following link - https://nfhslearn.com/courses/officiating-field-hockey.
To do this, you will need to create an account
and
select Connecticut as your state.
The course takes approximately 30 minutes and is free.
Once you have completed the course,

STEP 3: Field Certification
Date for field training: Saturday and Sunday, September 7th and 8th at Conard HS turf - time TBD.
-Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will need to attend a separate on field training certification session to be able to referee the WHYFH Sticklette (2nd and 3rd graders) games.
Seniors who are RETURNING REFS must take the online course and will ref the senior games on Saturday September 7th to get certified. Time TBD
ANY BRAND NEW REFEREE who is a Sophomore, Junior or Senior must complete the online course and on field sessions.
STEP 4: Register yourself for games
We will be using sign up.com for games.
You will sign up after your training. On September 8th.
***Please do not sign up for a game if your Mom is coaching and/or if your sister is playing on the team you would be reffing. We know it is easier to get to the field and be at the game when your Mom is there, but it can be challenging to make the right calls against your mom and sister.****
Before registering, please note:
Freshmen will be eligible to referee Sticklettes games only. $20/ref/game
Sophomores will referee Junior Division (5th & 6th grades) only. $40/ref/game
Juniors and Seniors - will referee Junior and Senior Division (7th & 8th grades). $40/ref/game
We scale the number of maximum games by seniority so:
Seniors get 5 games maximum
Juniors get 4 games maximum
Sophomores get 4 games maximum
Freshman get 3 games maximum.
We will have sign ups for subs for the games in addition to the two people who are on each game. This person may have other duties at the game and will be paid $16.00 for the hour. This may include but is not limited to : helping keep parents out of the field area. Make sure parents are only walking the track and not coaching from the track. Getting balls back to the game if they go out of bounds.
NEED TO CANCEL A GAME?
If, after you register for a game, but then decide you cannot make it and it is over a week away, just log back into the system and uncheck yourself from that game.
Check back often to the website to see if there are any openings.
STEP 5: Game Day
-arrive 15 minutes before the game starts.
-wear your WHYFH referee shirt, black bottoms (shorts, pants, leggings) Please be conscious of the shortness of your shorts.
-We will provide you with a battery operated whistle.
-Make sure you use your whistle, call the calls, and use your hand signals.
Please make sure you CHECK your EMAIL as game time changes or cancellations will come directly to your email.

Call bunching and spread the girls out.
